This month, the Bolton Birch team are celebrating Richard Bolton’s career and contributions as he announces his retirement after 40 years of service.
As one of the original members of Bolton Birch and having provided years enriched with profound knowledge and expertise, Bolton Birch will definitely be missing an iconic and integral part of the team.
In 1981 Simon Bolton created a firm of surveyors and agents purely dealing with commercial property – the first of its kind in Chester. Richard, Simon’s brother, joined him a year later moving back up to the Chester area from London where he had been part of the retail agency team for leading west end firm Conrad Ritblat. Although going by the name of Simon Bolton & Co, this was the foundation of what would eventually become Bolton Birch just eight years later.
With decades of experience specialising in the retail sector, Richard Bolton has spent his time curating and managing Bolton Birch’s retail services; providing our clients with nothing but an outstanding service. He has truly paved the way for Bolton Birch and has set an example of professionalism and a personal level of service to which all of our team can aspire to.
Amongst our goodbyes, the team are excited to embark on a new chapter as we aim to follow Richard and carry on delivering a high calibre service for our clients in the retail sector. We’ll continue to utilise our experience and expertise and we look forward to providing our clients with the necessary advice, especially in a time of rapid change in the industry.

It’s been a pleasure to work alongside Richard and to watch Bolton Birch grow from the seed he and his brother planted in the early 1980s.
