Banking on success for Mold High Street

26 July, 2023

The former Barclays Bank at 38-42 High Street in Mold is for sale through Bolton Birch.

The 5,015 sq ft (466 sq m) property has a prominent position near to Santander, Nationwide, Boots, Poundstretcher and WH Smith. On the ground floor there is a large front retail sales area previously used as a banking hall with office and staff accommodation at the rear, while the basement provides a vaulted storage facility. The self-contained first floor office suite has its own entrance from the street and could easily be converted into residential flats or accommodation.

Jonty Goodchild, Director at Bolton Birch said;

“Banks are disappearing from the high street as more people use online services to manage their money. In 2007 around one third of the British population used online banking, which has now increased to over 90 percent according to Statista. And the number of ATM transactions fell by 40% during the pandemic and is unlikely to return to pre-pandemic levels.

Which? has identified that 5,838 bank branches closed in the UK since January 2015 and this branch is one of 156 sites Barclays will shut across the UK in 2023 and 2024.

Re-purposing Mold’s former Barclays Bank premises offers the potential to reinvigorate the high street with retail, entertainment, café, restaurant or bar options. Possible residential apartments above or thriving offices will bring life to the high street in new ways.”
